What's New
(Note: please also see the June 16th meeting summary below) On April 22nd, the Cordova Recreation Park District Board voted to reconsider having the district's first off-leash dog park at Hagan Park. Although the Board previously voted to allocate $25,000 for a dog park at Hagan Park over a year ago, the new Board wants to look again at the other district park locations. The Board's change in decision was due to a few citizens' concerns regarding the proposed Hagan Park location and its potential effect on special events such as the 4th of July celebration, Kids 'N The Park and Kids Day. The committee also advised the Board and the citizens that each District park had been reviewed and analyzed by District staff and the committe several years ago and Hagan Park was determined to be the most feasible location.
"Gone To The Dogs!" was at the Board meeting and advised the Board and the citizens that the proposed Hagan Dog Park site would not interfere with these events and the site was also determined to be the most feasible considering the legal, infrastructure and fiscal constraints. Although this turn of events is unforeseen and unfortunate, the funding is still intact for the District's first off leash dog park.
We will meet again with the Board to review again each park location and show them the research that was previously done on this. The District now has a landscape architect who can help determine the park's location. We believe that ultimately the dog park will be at Hagan Park and we are working with the Board and District staff to identify any other potential Hagan Park sites.
If you wish to contact the Board members regarding the District's first off leash dog park, you can do so at the crpd.org website.

Most Recent Dog Park Committee Meeting - June 16th 7pm
Cordova Recreation Park District HQ. 2197 Chase Dr. Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.
We met with David Edmonds, District Administrator. He provided us a status update regarding the District's first off-leash dog park. He and staff are looking at a potential dog park site at Hagan. Although he does not have more details available at this time, the site would be bigger than any other site looked at so far. He is also looking at allocating additional funds for the District's first dog park.
Staff is updating the various dog park site research and analysis the committee did several years ago and will present that information to the Board. David plans to present his proposal, once finalized, to the District Board's subcommittee on planning/facilities first then to the full Board in August. If the proposal is approved, the District's first off leash dog park would be opened by year-end or sooner.
The District has no plans at this point to have a July 4th booth. Due to their current workload, they cannot help us organize a "Wet 'N Woofy" this year either. Our next scheduled event is the "Winter Woof Fest!" on December 5th from 1:00-4:00pm.
