What's New

The Cordova Recreation Park District Board approved Hagan Dog Park at its Wednesday, October 14 meeting at CRPD HQ, 2197 Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova. The approved site is approximately 2 acres with both a small and large dog park area. Hagan Dog Park began construction on Monday, January 25th. In late January, the Construction Manager and Senior Landscape Architect walked the Hagan Dog Park site with the contractor and got the layout finalized. All supplies have been ordered and most have been delivered. The first week in February they began digging the mow strips and post holes. Despite the rain, the Construction Manager still feels confident it will be about a three week build in all. It is anticipated that Hagan Dog Park will be officially open around the third week in February. On May 22nd, we will have a full grand opening celebration. We started discussing ideas for the celebration during our December 12th "Winter Woof Fest!" event.

Our group met again this past Tuesday, February 16th, to discuss the Hagan Dog Park Grand Opening which is scheduled for Saturday, May 22nd. We will start with the blue ribbon cutting ceremony and Trish came up with a great idea for that. We could have one or two dogs chew through the chew bones connected to the ribbon. When they chew through the bones, the ribbon falls down. The grand opening event will include local media, members of the park district and the general public as well as our committee.

We will have vendors, a crafts fair, K-9 and agility demonstrations, and a variety of dog contests and games (Bob-For-Dogs, Stupid Pet Tricks, Pet Dance Contest, Pet-Owner Look-Alike Contest, Pet Costume Contest). We also plan to have a local food vendor as well, such as hot dogs or Wing Stop. We also hope to have Rancho Cordova Animal Control there as well. For the contests and games, we will need judges and an MC as well as prizes. Trish had another great idea for a VIP (Very Important Pooch). Trish will start on the publicity for the event with the district's activity guide, The Sacramento Bee, and The Grapevine.

While Hagan dog park is being built, we are also looking into having a sign at the site so passer-bys know that is the location for the upcoming dog park.

In addition to the May 22nd Hagan Dog Park Grand Opening Celebration, we will also have our annual "Wet 'N Woofy" on Saturday, August 21st. This is a really great event for the dogs and their owners. I believe the location again will be the Lincoln Village Pool, the day after it closes for the season.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 16th at 6:00pm at CRPD HQ, 2197 Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova. We will continue discussing our grand opening celebration plans. Hagan Dog Park should be open by the end of March.

Our group is also on Meetup, under Cordova Dog Parks Meetup Group.
